K3 Animal Doctor’s Visit

On a sunny day in April 2024, our K3 class had a special visitor – an animal doctor. The children were excited about this visit because they would have the opportunity to get up close and personal with the world of animal medicine.

Dr. Animal entered the classroom wearing a white doctor’s gown and carrying a variety of medical equipment, and the children immediately surrounded him with a glint of curiosity in their eyes. The doctor first introduced himself and shared some interesting animal medical stories, which not only aroused the children’s interest, but also made them understand more about the work of animal doctors.

Afterwards, the animal doctor showed several basic medical instruments, such as stethoscope, thermometer and syringe, and explained their uses. The children were excited to take turns trying out the stethoscope and listening to the heartbeats of their peers, a process filled with laughter. The doctor also brought in a cute puppy, and the children gathered around to learn how to properly care for and pet the little animal. This allowed them to experience the importance of caring for animals and increased their concern and understanding of animals.

During the interactive session, the children asked many questions, such as “What should we do when animals are sick? and “How hard is the work of an animal doctor? Dr. Animal patiently answered each question and encouraged the children to care for and protect small animals, making them realize that every life is worth cherishing.

The visit to the animal doctors not only taught the children a lot about animal medicine, but also inspired them to imagine their future careers. Many of the children expressed their hope to become professionals like doctors when they grow up and help animals and people.

At the end of the program, the children reluctantly said goodbye to Dr. Animal and thanked him for the wonderful experience. The visit not only helped the children gain knowledge, but also enriched their minds, and they look forward to more such learning opportunities in the future.

Letters and Sounds

“Reading to your children at home not only makes them enjoy reading, but it also helps them in school,” says Susan Quinn, a reading specialist and elementary school teacher at Saint Brendan School in the Bronx, New York. Reading together nurtures companionship and fun and builds concentration, focus, and vocabulary.
